EMT (EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN) BASIC TRAINING PROGRAM – 184 Hours ( 160 Didactic and Skills, 24 Hours of Hospital ER Rotations and Ambulance Ride-Alongs )

The EMT B Training Program offered by Bradford College of Nursing fulfills all of the training requirements set forth by the State of California in Title 22 of the California Code of regulations. The course curriculum includes all items outlined in Title 22, and is designed to guide students to successful completion of National Registry EMT – Basic Exam, which is required by the State of California for EMT certification, and this will allow students to work as an Emergency Medical Technician (SOC code 29-2041).

Additionally, this class conforms to the National Standard EMT – Basic Curriculum formulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The class is divided into two sections: didactic instruction and skills training (160 hours) and supervised clinical experience (field ride-along and hospital emergency room experience for a total of 24 hours). Upon successful completion of the EMT B Program, a Certificate of Completion will be awarded that will allow the student to apply for National Registry Certification and subsequent state certification as an EMT.

EMT TRAINING CLASS SUBJECTS:

Preparatory ( Intro, Well-Being, Medical/Legal and Ethical Issues, Human Body, Lifting and Moving Patients )

Airway

Patient Assessment ( Scene Size-up, Patient Assessment, Initial Assessment, Focused History, Physical Exam, Ongoing Assessment, Communications, Documentation, Baseline Vitals and Sample History )

Medical Emergencies ( Pharmacology, Respiratory Emergencies, Cardiovascular Emergencies, Diabetes/Altered Mental Status, Allergies, Poisoning/Overdose, Environmental Emergencies, Behavioral Emergencies, Obstetrics/Gynecology Emergencies)

Trauma (Bleeding, Shock, Soft Tissue Injuries, Musculoskeletal Care, Injuries to Head and Spine)

Special Patient Populations (Infants and Children)

Operations (Transport Operations (Ambulance), Gaining Access, Overviews of Incident Management and MCI)

Tactical Casualty Care and SIDS

EMT CLINICAL TRAINING (Emergency Room Exposure and Ambulance Ride-Along)

PREQUISITE:

Successful completion of Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3 of the EMT Program

DESCRIPTION:

Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 clinical hours, which will be fulfilled through two, 8-hour ride-along shifts, and an 8 hour emergency room rotation. These shifts can be scheduled for morning or evening, but is based on the availability of AMR and San Joaquin General Hospital. A minimum of 10 patients contacts must be completed and signed off on, in order for the student to successfully complete the clinical portion of the EMT Basic program. The student agrees to maintain the scheduling agreement in accordance with the program’s attendance policy.

PLEASE NOTE:

• Availability dates cannot conflict with EMT class time

• Availability dates must be adhered to (no rescheduling)

• Ride-Alongs may only take place between Week 4 and Week 6 of the program

• You must provide at least one weekday (excluding Fridays)

DRESS CODE:

• Dark navy or black trousers (no jeans or shorts) – EMT pants are acceptable.
• EMT Training Program student shirts or white polo style shirt with no insignia.
• Dark colored shoes (no high heels, sandals, open toe shoes or tennis shoes)
• Dark colored belt.

Tuition – EMT Basic Program

$1,650.00

**Payments are to be made on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for the duration of the program. *Tuition must be paid in full prior to a student being eligible to sit for NREMT examination.

**The EMT Basic Program is approved for funding through San Joaquin County Worknet’s WIOA program. You must meet certain eligibility criteria in order to qualify for free, County sponsored training. Please call for more details.
